After many years in education including 9 as a headteacher, I felt it was time to take a new direction. I trained in Sports massage and worked in a number of health clubs and gyms around the Manchester area and built up a separate private client base. Latterly I moved into the corporate market offering a rage of physical therapies to companies with a passion for employee welfare and well being. As the market grew I needed the support from a group of therapists with the same passion as myself and so Metrostress started its growth. My own “stress therapy” is cooking and more importantly making jam and marmalade in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care in memory of my daughter Samantha.

I am a massage therapist, yoga teacher, dance for health facilitator and soon to be a pilates instructor. I have just finished a three year BTEC level 6 in Advanced Clinical Massage and Sports Massage for the treatment of chronic pain, with the Jing Institute in Brighton. My journey into learning about the human body began with Reflexology and Indian Head Massage courses at my local college where I got the bug for massage. I was attending a weekly yoga class at the time and after I finished the massage courses I trained with DRU UK to become a yoga teacher which I love and has kept me out of pain and tension. I then decided to train to become an exercise to music teacher but found it too complicated. Luckily I came across Misty Tripolli and World Groove Movement, which is designed to make exercise to music more like dancing for fun with no complicated moves. I am currently finishing my pilates instructor training which is one more piece for the jigsaw. All the different systems I have trained in have aspects that overlap or compliment each other making bodywork more intriguing all the time.To relax, I do restorative yoga or walk my dogs somewhere very green.

I decided to pursue my interest in Aromatherapy, after I'd been made redundant, and make it more than a hobby. I trained and qualified in body massage and Aromatherapy and loved it. I didn't, however, make it a career at first, and continued to work as a PA with my therapy work in the background. I finally decided to do this as my main job and went freelance in 2007. I am mobile and go to client's homes or workplaces. In 2008 I added On-site massage to my skills which gave me more scope for work with the more portable massage chair. Now I have regular clients and work hours to suit myself and my family which means I can get a good balance between work and being around for my young son. To relax I read and do pilates.

I got into the learning massage after teaching English in the Middle East. I was ready for a change and massage was a therapy I had always wanted to study. I learnt Indian Head massage and Swedish massage in England and Dubai. I also teach Indian Head massage and love passing on techniques that people can use on their friends and family or professionally on clients. I also do holistic facials too. I love helping people feel better about themselves and massage is such a vital way to help people in their own wellbeing. In my own time, I enjoy learning Spanish, reading, yoga and walking.

Following a 14 years career in media sales, many of which were spend with Channel 4 Television, I decided it was time for a change in habits and lifestyle. I struggled to balance work with a busy home life, and whilst I never complained about the benefits of the job, I realised that I was becoming more stressed over time and possibly less productive. A keen sportsman, I decided to explore my lifelong interest in sport and fitness. My journey lead me to qualifications in Sports Psychology, Personal Training, Running Fitness, Biomechanics, Sports Massage Therapy and more recently Seat Acupressure Massage. All building the foundations to treat clients with a range of needs and conditions. I now enjoy the freedom of working freelance and for myself and have never regretted making the change. In my spare time I running and exercise to relax, and try to never be far from a good book. I enjoy hill walking and spending quality time with the important people in my life.

After having my Daughter Emily I decided to find a different career path. I have always had an interest in beauty and holistic therapies since being 18 but never did anything about it. I finally went back to college in 1999 where I trained for 2 years in a B/Tec international diploma in beauty, holistics and sport therapy. I have since had a Son and carried on my training in advanced nail techniques, tanning, reiki, reflexology, hot stone massage, sports massage, crystal clear facials special occasion make-up and I am currently an educator with Ultimate eyelash supplies base in Hull. My main relaxation is walking my dog Benny, adult ballet class, and I am also a member of the Halle choir as an associate member, where I have recently sang Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at the Royal Albert Hall.
